Carry1st, Africa’s premier games publisher, has unveiled an exciting all-female Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament set to take place at Insomnia Egypt. Dubbed the Carry1st Africa Cup: MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) Qualifier, the event will serve as the official African qualifier for the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025, with the winning team securing a spot in the global finals in Saudi Arabia.
A Platform for Female Gamers
This tournament marks the first installment of the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025, a series of esports competitions aimed at showcasing Africa’s gaming talent. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event—which featured a $15,000 prize pool—the MWI Qualifier will provide a dedicated stage for Africa’s top female players to compete at the highest level.
Tournament Structure
The competition will unfold in three key stages:
- Online Qualifiers (April 4–6 & April 10–12): Two separate brackets—one for Egypt and another for the rest of Africa—will see 32 teams each battle in a double-elimination format.
- Grand Finals (April 24–26): The top teams will face off in a single-elimination championship at Insomnia Egypt, with the champions earning a ticket to the Esports World Cup.
Key Dates & Registration
- Registration Open: March 26 – April 2, 2025 (via official website)
- Rest of Africa Qualifiers: April 4–6 (South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and more)
- Egypt Qualifiers: April 10–12
- Insomnia Grand Finals: April 24–26
Elevating African Esports
Despite Africa’s rapidly growing gaming community, the continent remains underrepresented in global esports due to infrastructural challenges. Carry1st aims to change this by fostering competitive opportunities and nurturing homegrown talent.
Lucy Hoffman, Co-Founder & COO of Carry1st, shared her enthusiasm:
“This year’s Africa Cup is set to be bigger than ever, and we’re thrilled to kick it off with our first-ever women’s tournament. African gamers have incredible potential, and we’re committed to giving them the platform they deserve.”
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at Moonton Games, added:
“Partnering with Carry1st allows us to expand MLBB’s competitive scene in Africa. We’re especially proud to support female players as they step onto the global stage, reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity in esports.”
Looking Ahead
The MWI Qualifier is just the beginning of Carry1st’s 2025 esports roadmap, with more tournaments planned throughout the year. As MLBB continues to dominate the esports landscape—peaking at over 250,000 viewers during last year’s EWC—this event promises to further solidify Africa’s presence in competitive gaming.
